Bollywood films continue to disappoint. Another week, another clash and two more movies have made it to the list of flop films of the year. This Friday saw the release of Kangana Ranaut’s Simran and Farhan Akhtar’s Lucknow Central. Both movies were released with almost zero pre-release buzz and as expected the first weekend collections are disappointing. After a poor opening, both movies witnessed decent growth over the weekend but that wasn’t enough. Let’s have a look at the first weekend collection of Simran.
Simran First Weekend Box Office Collection Report
After a below average opening day with the collection of 2.77 crores, Simran witnessed good growth over the first weekend. It saw a growth of 35.74% on its second day to earn 3.76 crores. On Sunday, the movie recorded more growth and earned around 4.4 crores. The first weekend collection of the movie stands at around 11 crores. The numbers are low considering that it is a Kangana Ranaut film.
Despite being a good movie, Simran is struggling at the box office. Kangana Ranaut’s controversial statements during the promotion are certainly affecting the film. There is a certain section of the audience which is staying away from the film.
The total budget of Simran including the promotion and advertising cost is around 30 crores. As per the reports we have, the movie has recovered around 15 crores from music, satellite and overseas rights. The filmmakers still need to recover the remaining amount from India theatrical distributor share. Simran needs to earn more than 40 crores to be in a safe zone.
After a poor opening weekend with the collection of 11 crores, this certainly looks an impossible task now. Kangana Ranaut is a superb actress but the failure of Simran has proved that she doesn’t have a box office pull. Simran is Kangana Ranaut’s fourth consecutive disaster after I Love NY, Katti Batti and Rangoon.
